A MissionAssist smartphone app has been judged one of the best apps of the year by a UK Christian media organisation.
The EasyEnglish New Testament app has received the runner-up award in the ‘App of the Year’ category at the Premier Digital awards ceremony, held at The Brewery events venue in London on 3rd November.
The app, part of the EasyEnglish Bible project, was launched earlier this year and is available free of charge. It has already been downloaded in more than 150 countries around the world.
Receiving the award, John Williams, who leads the EasyEnglish Bible team for MissionAssist, said: “Working on this project has been very rewarding. This award is for all members of team who have worked on the EasyEnglish Bible over the past 20 years.”
The EasyEnglish Bible is a version of scripture using a limited vocabulary of just 1200 words and simple syntax which was devised by a small team of MissionAssist volunteers. It is available online at www.easyenglish.bible
The idea for the EE Bible followed a request from a pastor in West Africa who asked MissionAssist (then Wycliffe Associates UK) to put some Bible commentaries in an easy-to-read form for those whom English was a second language. Today the online Bible website is getting more than two million visits a year from some 200 countries.
The Premier Digital Awards aim to help the Christian community take hold of all the opportunities offered by the digital revolution. There were a total of 1,000 entries for the awards this year in various categories, ranging from websites to podcasts.
