Are you a qualified translator? Would you like the opportunity to work on a range of topics, translating from English into your mother tongue?
For some languages, such as Spanish, French and Portuguese, we have a steady stream of translation projects that you can get involved with. For other languages the demand is more variable but we value having members to call upon so that we can match as many requests as possible with an experienced translator. Therefore, please consider joining us to offer your translation skills for any language, from Norwegian to Arabic, Dutch to Chinese.
Qualifications: Translation with an understanding of linguistics.

Do you have a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL)? Would you like to put your experience to good use without leaving home?
We are keen to hear from tutors who are experienced in formal English teaching for non-English speakers. You will usually be tutoring one-to-one online and the hours are completely flexible so you can fit them in around your other commitments. MissionAssist may also receive requests for groups to be taught online, or occasionally requests for face-to-face tutoring, which are circulated to the team members.
Qualifications: TEFL or TESOL, such as Cambridge CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or equivalent.

Do you enjoy turn-taking conversation? Would you like an opportunity to speak with and encourage people who are involved in mission?
As well as formal tutoring, we offer a less formal service providing practice in English conversation. You do not need to have any formal qualification – you just need to be willing to listen and talk in English, using a video conferencing tool such as Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp. Through such informal discussions, you can increase the knowledge of and fluency of mission team members who need to speak English as part of their service to God.
Qualifications: Fluent English speaker. Enjoy turn-taking conversation. Ability to give positive, helpful feedback.

Do you have a passion for writing that explains ideas and concepts clearly? Would you like to write in English knowing that would be help people learn to read in their own language?
We want to help people learn to read, to have access to practical information and also understand relevant vocabulary for reading the Bible. You would be writing simple reading books in English which could very accessible and deal with topics like health and hygiene, how to make items with local materials, basic repairs and animal husbandry. Then our translation teams make copies in several other major languages and these Shell Books are provided as free resources which can be translated by anyone else to create literacy materials in their local language.
Qualifications: Ability to create new text, or to shorten and simplify existing written information, in clear writing.

Would you be willing to learn to write in a specific form of simple English? Do you already know about and appreciate the EasyEnglish Bible and books?
EasyEnglish is a specific form of English. It has been developed exclusively by MissionAssist. The goal is to write in a simple style that is easy to read and understand. EasyEnglish is good for people who find reading difficult and people whose first language is not English. We produce Bible studies and other books on a range of subjects. Our writers also translate our literacy booklets into EasyEnglish.
Qualifications: Experience of writing in English, good knowledge of grammar, and the ability to communicate ideas in simple terms.
