A Bible in clear and simple English
The EasyEnglish Bible is very good for people who are learning English and people who speak English as a foreign language. We have used a basic vocabulary of about 1000 well-known English words. It is a translation that expresses the meaning of the original message in a clear, accurate and natural way.
MissionAssist’s vision for the EasyEnglish Bible and Books is to help people from every country to understand the Bible, and apply it to their lives. Millions of people from over 200 countries use the EasyEnglish website.

What are the Bible translation principles?
The EasyEnglish Bible is a “meaning-for-meaning” (dynamic equivalent) translation. It is not a “word-for-word” translation.
EasyEnglish expresses the meaning of the original message in the most clear, accurate and natural way possible in simple English. It uses:
- Short sentences and paragraphs with simple grammar.
- Words that explain the meaning of sayings (idioms) instead of translating them word for word.
- Avoiding passive verbs, split infinitives, sayings, and statements in the form of a question (rhetorical questions).
How was the EasyEnglish Bible translated and checked?
MissionAssist brought together an ecumenical team of well qualified people to make sure that the EasyEnglish Bible is both clear and accurate:
- Translators: Wrote and refined the text so that it is easy to read while staying true to the source.
- Linguistic Checkers: Used their expertise in Linguistics or English and TEFL qualification to check correct use of language.
- Theological Checkers: Applied their training in theology (degree-level or similar) to assess the text for correct teaching.
- Style Checkers: Reviewed drafts and final text to ensure everything followed MissionAssist’s EasyEnglish style guide.
- Proofreading Team: Ensured each book was carefully read through twice to find any remaining issues.
- Bible Translation Consultant: Reviewed the entire Bible to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency across all books.
What Scriptures and reference texts were used?
The EasyEnglish team of Translators and Checkers used a range of English Bible translations as a base.
Where English versions have a different understanding of the original text, the team referred to the Biblia Hebraica Masoretic text (Old Testament) and Novum Testamentum Graece edited by Nestle and Aland (New Testament).
To help translators and checkers understand the issues involved in translating the original texts, they used Bible translation resources provided by Wycliffe Bible Translators.
