Who can apply for a grant? What types of projects are eligible? How much money can I ask for? How do I apply for a grant?  This is essential reading before applying for a grant.

Requirements

MissionAssist (MA) is not able to provide a grant to everyone who would like to receive financial help. We accept requests for small grants which fulfil particular requirements:

Who can apply for a grant?

  • The request must be from a Christian organisation that agrees with the MissionAssist Statement of Belief. The organisation can be Protestant, Roman Catholic or Orthodox. Our grants are not for individuals or families seeking personal financial help.

What types of projects are eligible?

  • The request must be for an independent, one-time project. We do not give grants for: continual or repeated costs; contributions to a larger budget or project; payment of salaries, rent or accommodation, education fees or food.
  • The project must benefit the public and promote the Christian faith. Our grants are not for personal use.

We have applied previously, can we apply again?

  • If your request was not approved, then you may submit a new application at any time.
  • If your organisation has been awarded a grant by MissionAssist, then you must wait at least two years before submitting another request for the same, or a similar, project.

How much money can we ask for?

  • The request can be up to a maximum of £600 sterling (GBP).
  • The project must have funds from at least one other source. Our grants are not for a project’s total costs.

MA may prioritise requests which fulfil these criteria:

  • Projects that have a wide benefit for communities.
  • Projects that support Bible translation and scripture engagement.
  • Organisations that are part of an MA partner organisation such as Wycliffe Global Alliance (WGA), Evangelical Alliance, Global Connections, or United Bible Societies (UBS).

MA asks all applicants who request a grant to commit to:

  • Provide full, accurate information on the application form and in all other communications.
  • Respond to any follow-up questions from MA asking for further information, for example, more details about the project plan, full bank account details, or the status of other funding for the project.
  • Use the grant only for the project described on the application form and no other purpose.
  • If you want to make any change to the project plan whilst your application is being considered, contact MA to request any change and provide an explanation.
  • If awarded a grant:
    • As soon as you are told that your application is successful, send confirmation to MA that there have been no changes to the project plan, other than changes which have been agreed with MA whilst your application was being considered.
    • As soon as the grant money is received, send confirmation to MA.
    • As soon as the grant money is spent, send legible copies of receipts (scans or photographs) to MA, with a report describing how the money has been spent and how the project has progressed.
    • As the project continues, and when it has completed, send at least one further report, with photographs if possible, so that MA can be praying for the project and can tell the people who gift money how the grants are being spent.
    • If after two years not all of the grant has been spent, inform MA and repay the remaining money to MA.

About the Application Form

  • Authority: Provide your job or role title and confirm you have authority to apply for a grant on behalf of your organisation. If you do not have authority yourself, please ask someone else who does have authority to apply on behalf of your organisation.
  • People: If you are not the most senior person in your organisation, tell us about someone more senior than you in your organisation. If you are not the peron who will be running the project, tell us about the person who will be responsibile for leading the project. If you are not the person who will look after the grant money, tell us about the person who will oversee the use of the money.
  • Referee: Tell us about someone who can provide a reference for you. The person must know you well and be willing to tell us about you. They must be a senior person in a different Christian organisation. Their email address, organisation name and website address are essential for your application to be considered.
  • Timetable: If your request is for a project which needs a grant by a specific date, provide a clear explanation, with supporting evidence.

About the Application Process

The first step is for you to read the information for applicants on this page, and look at the online application form. Check that your organisation, your project, and your applicant all fulfil the criteria for an MA grant. Gather all the information that you need for the application form.

Complete the application form with all the required information and submit it.  Note that you will not be able to save the form and return to complete it another time.

All completed application forms which are received by the closing date will be reviewed by MA. However, we are unable to award a grant to every project.

We aim to tell you the decision about your application within four months of the closing date. However, we may need to ask you to provide further information, which could delay the decision. We may carry forward your application to be re-considered at the same time as applications submitted by the following closing date.

The information you provide to MA about your project and your organisation, including any photographs, will be used by MA to support our small grants ministry, including but not limited to prayer support for your project and newsletters to donors. When you apply for a grant you commit to providing the information, but you can opt-out of the information being included in MA communications.
