Who can apply for a grant? What types of projects are eligible? How much money can I ask for? How do I apply for a grant?  This is essential reading before applying for a grant.

Requirements

MissionAssist (MA) cannot provide a grant to everyone who requests financial help. We only consider applications for small grants that meet certain requirements:

Who can apply for a grant?

  • The request must come from a Christian organisation that agrees with the MissionAssist Statement of Belief. The organisation can be Protestant, Roman Catholic or Orthodox. Our grants are not for individuals or families for personal financial needs.

What types of projects are eligible?

  • The request must be for an independent, one-time project. MA does not give grants for:
    • continual or repeated costs,
    • contributions to a larger budget or project,
    • payment of salaries,
    • rent or accommodation,
    • education fees,
    • food.
  • The project must benefit the public and promote the Christian faith. Grants are not for personal use.

We have applied previously – can we apply again?

  • If your previous request was not approved, then you may submit a new application at any time.
  • If your organisation has already been awarded a grant by MA, then you must wait at least two years before submitting another request for the same project or a similar one.

How much money can we ask for?

  • You may request up to £600 sterling (GBP).
  • The project must also have funding from at least one other source. MA grants do not cover the full cost of a project.

MA may prioritise requests for:

  • Projects that benefit a wide group of people.
  • Projects that support Bible translation or scripture engagement.
  • Applications that come from organisations linked with an MA partner organisation such as Wycliffe Global Alliance (WGA), Evangelical Alliance, Global Connections or United Bible Societies (UBS).

MA asks all applicants to commit to:

  • Provide full and accurate information on the application form and in later communications.
  • Respond promptly to any follow-up questions from MA, for example, more details about the project plan, bank account information or the status of other funding for the project.
  • Use the grant only for the project described on the application form and no other purpose.
  • Contact MA immediately if the project plan changes while the application is being considered.
  • If you are awarded a grant:
    • As soon as we tell you that your application is successful, you must confirm that nothing in your project plan has changed except any changes already agreed with MA.
    • As soon as the grant money is received, you must send confirmation to us that the money has arrived.
    • As soon as the grant money is spent, you must send legible copies of receipts (scans or photographs) to us, with a report explaining how the money was used and how the project has progressed.
    • As the project continues, and when it is complete, you must send at least one further report to us, with photographs if possible, so that we can pray for the project and can tell the people who give money how the grants are being used.
    • If after two years not all of the grant has been spent, you must inform us and repay the remaining money to MA.

About the Application Form

  • Authority: Provide your job or role title and confirm you have authority to apply for a grant on behalf of your organisation. If you do not have authority yourself, please ask someone who does have authority to apply instead.
  • People: If you are not the most senior person in your organisation, tell us about the person who supervises you or leads your organisation. If you will not run the project yourself, tell us about who will be responsible for leading the project. If you will not look after the grant money, tell us about the person who will oversee how the money is used. You must ask all of these people to say yes to you giving their personal details to MA.
  • Referee: Tell us about a person who will give a reference for you. We need enough information to confirm that your referee is real and that they know about you and your project. This helps us make sure every grant goes to a genuine project.
    • You must choose someone:
      • who knows you well and knows about your project,
      • is not in your project team,
      • is in a different Christian organisation,
      • has said yes to being your referee,
      • has said yes that you may give their personal details to MA.
    • You must tell us:
      • how you know the person and how long you have known them,
      • their name,
      • their email address,
      • their organisation’s name,
      • their organisation’s website address. Give us a link we can check. If there is no website, tell us an official social media page or another online link that shows us the organisation is real.
    • IMPORTANT: If you put your own name as referee, or if you write “N/A” or “not applicable” instead of giving information about the referee’s organisation and website then we cannot consider your application.
  • Timetable: If your project requires funding by a specific date, provide a clear explanation, with supporting evidence.
  • Bank details: Provide your organisation’s bank name and account name. Do not include your bank account number on the form. If your application is successful, we will ask you for further details about your bank account, so that the project can receive the money.

About the Application Process

First, read all the information on this page. Then look at the online application form. Make sure that you, your organisation and your project meet the criteria for an MA grant. Gather all the information that you need for the application form.

Complete the application form with all the required information and submit it.  Note that you will not be able to save the form and return to complete it later.

All completed application forms received by the closing date will be reviewed by MA. However, we are not able to award a grant to every project.

We aim to tell you our decision about your application within four months of the closing date. However, we may need to ask you to provide more information, which could delay the decision. We may carry forward your application to be reconsidered alongside applications submitted for the next closing date.

The information you provide to MA about your project and your organisation, including any photographs, may be used by MA to support the small grants ministry – including prayer support for your project and newsletters to donors. When you apply for a grant you agree to provide the information, but you may opt-out of having your information included in MA communications.
