MissionAssist is an amazing charity entirely of volunteers serving world mission from home. Through many areas of service and projects, including provision of the EasyEnglish Bible and Bible Digitisation Project, MissionAssist members are making a real difference as they support those involved in Bible translation and widening access to the Scriptures.
Governance and leadership roles within MissionAssist provide oversight and stewardship, plus a culture of encouragement and shared responsibility.
Current opportunity – Head of Services
MissionAssist is currently seeking a Head of Services.
This role supports the service coordinators, encourages volunteer teams and facilitates best practice across MissionAssist services.
What does the Head of Services role involve?
The Head of Services builds supportive relationships with service coordinators and offers perspective as services develop and change. This includes coming alongside coordinators as a thoughtful listener and sounding board, helping them reflect on capacity, scope and service sustainability, and noticing patterns across services that may benefit from shared insight or support.
Who would this role suit?
This role would suit a volunteer who brings experience of leadership or coordination, enjoys supporting other volunteers and values collaboration in the service of shared mission goals, all with excellent communication skills.
What is the expected time commitment?
This is an ongoing volunteer role, with a steady contribution likely to average 4–8 hours per week.
Where is the role based?
All our volunteers are home-based. The Head of Services can be living in the UK or elsewhere, provided there is a suitable overlap with UK hours for conference calls, which are arranged for mutually convenient times
I am interested in this role – what is the next step?
To find out more about this role or express your interest, please email volunteers@missionassist.org introducing yourself and asking any initial questions.
What is the closing date for applications?
There is no fixed closing date for this role. Applications will be considered as they are received until a volunteer is appointed.
Trustees
MissionAssist trustees provide governance, oversight and long‑term stewardship of the charity. They also help ensure that MissionAssist remains faithful to its purpose, vision and values. Trustee meetings are quarterly and are usually online.
The board is currently open to enquiries from people who are resident in the United Kingdom and who have the commitment and capacity to help MissionAssist continue to pursue its vision. We particularly welcome interest from people who have prior experience as an effective trustee and/or recent experience in overseas mission. We are also keen to hear from those who may not have gained such experience but do have a passion for worldwide mission and Bible translation.
Leaders
MissionAssist has a range of leadership roles that support different aspects of our services and organisational life. Enquiries about these areas of service are welcome from people with relevant experience, even where that role is not actively advertised.
Head of Marketing – Raise awareness of MissionAssist, its services and resources, amongst those who can contribute and those who can benefit worldwide.

Head of Partnerships – Provide oversight of both formal and informal relationships linking MissionAssist and partner organisations.
Head of Recruitment – Guide the activities and team involved in engaging new people to become volunteers with MissionAssist.
Head of Service Development – Oversee the planning and development of new services, and support the growth of existing services.

Leadership roles typically involve:
- Lead an area of activity (for Head roles).
- Develop and build relationships with team members and other leaders.
- Report to the CEO, maintaining regular contact and providing written reports for quarterly meetings.
Shared expectations for leadership and governance:
- Ability to work independently, with good judgement, in a virtual organisation.
- Excellent networking, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Competence with video conferencing and office software.
- Experience of Christian servant leadership – desirable.
“Not long after I had prayed for the Lord’s guidance, I saw an opportunity that so closely matched my skills, experience and vision for servant leadership that I made an enquiry about the role straightaway.”
